How does all of this work?
Initiating The ProJuris 5-Step Judgment Satisfaction Process™ is as easy as signing one document. The letter you received from ProJuris contains an Agreement for Assignment containing important information specific to your judgment. Read this Agreement. It describes how ProJuris can help you recover your judgment, as well as ProJuris’ obligations. If the terms are acceptable, sign the Agreement where indicated and return it to us. After the signed Agreement is received, we will record it with the appropriate court, and proceed with The ProJuris 5-Step Judgment Satisfaction Process™ to collect your judgment. As we collect, we will make payments to you after as described below.
Must I pay any of the expenses incurred in collecting my judgment?
You will pay no expenses upfront. In many cases, the expenses incurred in collecting the judgment can be added to the judgment and recovered from the party who must pay the judgment. If this is not the case, the expenses will be deducted from the amount actually collected.
Will ProJuris help collect interest on unpaid judgments?
Yes. Most judgments include a provision for the payment of interest from the day it was awarded. The actual interest rate and calculation process varies from state to state. If interest accrues on your unpaid judgment, ProJuris will seek to collect this interest as well as the original amount of the judgment. With interest, your judgment could be worth significantly more today than it was on the day it was awarded.
Is ProJuris a licensed collection agency?
Yes. ProJuris is a licensed collection agency. But we are different from traditional debt collectors. Most collection agencies represent clients with hundreds, or even thousands of debtors whose debts have not been reduced to judgments. These agencies specialize in assisting creditors who have not yet obtained a judgment. ProJuris specializes in assisting judgment creditors recover their judgments—plus all accrued interest. Our staff is trained in compliance with the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act as well as state laws and regulations.
Is my judgment valid forever?
No. Statutes in each state vary, but a judgment is generally valid for only 5 to 20 years. Many states allow a judgment creditor to renew a judgment for an additional period.
Why shouldn't I use an attorney to enforce my judgment?
You can. However, attorneys sometimes require upfront payments and usually charge fees of $125 to $175 per hour or more -- whether or not they recover a dime. Generally, attorneys are trained to obtain a judgment; ProJuris’s expertise is collecting it for you.
Is there any guarantee that you will be successful?
No. Sometimes a party has no assets to pay a judgment. But you can be sure that we will do our best to get you paid. After all, we receive nothing unless you get paid.
How long will I have to wait before I will actually see results?
The time to settle judgments depends on the difficulty in locating the party who owes you money and in uncovering his assets. Some debtors are adept at hiding their assets. Our goal is to obtain results in the first few weeks, but a difficult case may take months to collect.
